First day of summer everyone!! The hot bite of the week would be NIGHTIME Striper fishing. Fishing cutbait on the bottom around main lake points and humps has been explosive as i found out last night. Fast and furious action. Humps are hot right now. 20 to 30 feet deep. Seems as soon as it’s dark the action kicks in. Daytime fishing would be trolling umbrella rigs and deep diving crankbaits. Also freeline or downline live bait.
The full moon is this coming monday, be prepared for some hot bream and shellcracker fishing. they should come up shallow and can be caught on redworms and crickets. Also to cover water fast, try casting beetle spins and Strikeking bitsy minnows. Action should be hot!! Have a safe summer everyone!!!
I know the plans that i have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Jeremiah 29;11
thought of the week: our present soon becomes the past that shapes our future.
as everyone knows, summer is here and the heat is on,along with all the boat traffic, so be safe this summer!!
Stripers-cut bait fished on the bottom is working well right now, humps and main lake points is best. also trolling with umbrella rigs and deep diving crankbaits working very well right now. also drifting and slow trolling live herrring on freelines is working great right now also.
Largemouth bass-this is good early mornings around points with topwater baits. mid morning and throughout the day would be shakey head rigs, texas rigs and carolina rigs fished deep around points, secondary points and deep boat docks. also drop shot rigs fished around deep structure is also working well.
bream and shellcrackers-this bite was screaming hot around the last full moon. unbelievable action, with big fish being caught. but as of right now this bite is okay in 8 to 15 feet deep around points and secondary points with rocky or hard bottoms. split shot rigs and mini carolina rigs fished with redworms, blueworms or baby nightcrawlers is working well. the full moon this month will turn this bite back to being scorching hot in the shallows, can’t wait!!!
catfish-nightime is the rightime!! points, secondary points, humps and around the islands is the way to go.cut fresh cut bait fished on the bottom in about 5 to 15 feet of water is the best bet.
white perch-this bite is hot right now, some shallow, some deep, there everywhere! i use small crankbaits and roadrunners shallow. spoons and drop shot rigs deep. catching alot of nice eating size fish right now, keep the small ones for catfish bait. The little Slauda river is hot right now for white perch. have a great week everyone!
Restore us, O God, make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved. Pslam 80:3
thought of the week: God’s one word message to us is RESTORATION!
the hot bite here on Lake Murray this week would be the shellcracker and bream. Monster shellcrackers are being caught caught all over the lake, shallow as in ten feet of water or less. split shot rigs or mini carolina rigs, fished with red worms, baby nightcrawlers, or crickets are producing alot of nice fish right now. try fishing around secondary points, shallow humps, and pockets with flooded cover. The bream bite is hot right now also. they are all over the banks, especially around boat docks. i like to use very small as in tiny crankbaits, rooster tail spinners, beetle spins and small mepps in line spinners.they are hammering these baits right now. plus you can cover alot of water by using this method. Have a great week everyone!
More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters, more majestic then the waves of the sea, majestic on high is the Lord! Psalm 93:4
thought of the week: The more we know Christ, the more we can trust him.
Well, this month has been either great or bad depending on what day it was. I’m glad this month is over. Bring on nice spring weather. Most of the lake is still pretty muddy. But the fishing is getting alot better with warmer water temps..
Stripers- striper fishing has been great from Spence islands up to the dam. Bucktails seem to producing the most fish. trolling also seems to be working very well, but don’t count out the best bet, which is freelining live bait or drifting with live bait.
Largemouth Bass-this is a hit and miss bite depending on the weather. floating worms and spinnerbaits seem to be working well shallow. Also flipping jig n pigs around docks. Green pumpkin shakey head rigs working shallow also. as is the shad rap!!! the deep bite with spoons and deep diving crankbaits also is still working well..the more stable the weather, the better the bass bite is..
Crappies-this bite has been outstanding in the river sections all month long, and should continue. trolling jigs and minnows with spider rigs has been excellent. there should be some crappies shallow spawning reel soon..
Bream and Shellcrackers- this bite has been great around secondary points, and all islands. Five to ten feet deep has been best. Fish mini carolina rigs with red worms and baby nightcrawlers. also split shot rigs with crickets should also produce fish. this bite has been really good as of late.
Catfish- not good at all this March, bait has been scattered and so have the catfish. warmer water temps should make this bite better in the backs of the bigger main lake creeks. cut bait is best. secondary points and around the islands. Fish shallow at night and deep during the day..
Happy Easter everyone.
Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6
thought of the day: Am i living as though i believe God is real?
Well as we all know, old man winter has had a good hold on the fishing so far this new year. Cold, muddy water seems to be the norm right now. Hopefully after a couple more weeks, we can break free from this weather. Things can only get better!!
Stripers: This weather doesn’t seem to affect the stripers very much. They like to eat. Look for loons and seagulls. Then cast bucktails with ice flies, spoons and suspending jerkbaits. Downlines and freelines with live herring and shiners are also working very well.
Largemouth Bass: Try fishing suspeding jerkbaits around secondary points. Jigs and shakey heads around brushpiles, and small crankbaits around shallow flooded brush and boat docks. The recent CATT tourney produce several 20 pound five fish limits.
Bream & Shellcrackers: This bite is good around secondary points and pockets with flooded cover. Fish mini Carolina rigs and split shot rigs with red worms and baby nightcrawlers.
Crappies: The rivers are running red with cold muddy water. But a lot of nice fish are being caught. Dark colored jigs under bridges and around brush piles would be the best bet right now. Spider rigging also producing right now.
Catfish: The ticket to catching catfish right now is fairly a simple approach. Stay out of the cold muddy water. Fish in the main lake. Humps, secondary points and main lake points in clearer water is the hot tip of the week. Anchor down in 20 feet of water and fan cast fresh cut bait around your boat. This is the only bite for catfish right now.
White Perch: Find the perch and this bite can get fast and furious real quick. But finding the perch is the hard part. Try using jiggin spoons, drop shot rigs and perch rigs tipped with minnows.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
Thought of the Week: God offers us warmth and comfort in life’s winters.
hello everyone!!
as everybody knows, this has been a wet cold winter so far! Alot of rain! Murray has been very muddy for awhile. But the stripers seem to still be biting pretty good, even in the muddy water. Rattletraps and noisy jerkbaits seem to be working very well. Largemouth Bass seem to be biting, deep on crankbaits, shallow on jerkbaits, shakyheads, and soft plastic worms. Crappies are biting deep around brush piles. And the catfish can be caught deep in the clearer creeks drifting. perch are biting very well if you can find them. Finding them is the tough part. clearer water seems to be better, but finding clearer water can be tough with all the rain making the lake muddy!! This is a great time i guess to inventory and clean those rods and reels. More rain is on the way, The good thing is that spring is right around the corner!! Good fishing everyone!!!
You sent abundant rain upon your land,o God, to refresh it in its weariness! Psalms 68:10

thought for the week: Life’s winds blow us to new places and toward new growth.
Happy New Year!!!!!!
Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is valuable in every way, because it promises life both for the present and for the future. 1 Timothy 4:8
thought for the week..regular spiritual nourishment gives us a fuller life in Christ.
Stripers: Striper fishing is good all over the lake right now. Overcast days are best. Schooling action all over the place. Lots of fish are being caught, but not many keepers. Rattletraps, bucktails, jerkbaits and spoons are all working great right now. Bright, sunny days would be live bait fished on downlines and freelines. Also, bottom bumping spoons also works great.
Largemouth Bass: A lot of bass are being caught right now. Fish in the back of creeks where here is bait present. Shad raps and small crankbaits are working great right now. Secondary points will call for Zoom trick worms fished on shakey heads. Most bass being caught right now are in the one to two pound range.
Shellcrackers: Fishing is great around secondary points, humps, and shallow flats right now. Five to fifteen feet of water is best. Try using redworms and baby nightcrawlers on mini Carolina rigs and split shot rigs. This is not a quantity bite but a quality bite. Most fish being caught are very nice sized.
Catfish: This bite is great right now. You can anchor down in the back of creeks where there is bait and catch really nice sized channel cats on cutbait. Twenty feet or less is great. Or you can drift fish in twenty to thirty feet of water with fresh cut bait also. Catfish are biting really well right now.
White Perch: This is for all you diehard perch jerkers out there. This bite is getting better and better with the colder weather. Perch are feeding heavey right now in the back of the creeks. Twenty five feet of water and less. Half ounce Berry Spoons are working great right now. Also, drop shot rigs catch a lot of fish. The colder it gets, the better this bite will get. Remember there is no limit on white perch. Use the small ones for catfish bait.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
Hello everyone!
Sorry I haven’t posted a fishing report lately but I have been on vacation since Nov, 1st. The fishing was great until all the rain moved in. Rising lake levels on Lake Murray usually means not good fishing. From Rocky creek up into the rivers is muddy, and most of the big main lake creeks have stained water in the back third of those creeks. As of right now the stripers are still schooling in the mornings and on and off all day when its cloudy and overcast. Top waters, bucktails, jerk baits and spoons are all working well. A few large mouth bass are also being caught mixed in with the stripers, all other species of fish such as bream, crappies, perch, and catfish has slowed down. It may take a week or two for things to get back to normal due to all the rain we got. I’ll post a better fishing report when things calm down, have a great week everyone.
